So last week I caught an episode of MTV’s “Made” show. I assumed it would be shit, as most MTV seems to be the past few years… but holy cow, this case MOVED me! I cried my eyes out! The episode dealt with bullying, and oddly enough, the main character’s high school is so big on metal music- they have an annual “battle of the bands” type thing. So in short, the bullied girl wanted to face herself and be made into a Metal Screamer. Great episode, I embedded it above, so watch and enjoy!

Look out for special appearances by iwrestledabearonce and Winds of Plague

The vocal coach in the episode is the supremely talented, Alissa White-Gluz of The Agonist. I’d first heard of the band when their music video for “Business Suits and Combat Boots” made Headbanger’s Ball’s Top 20 Music Videos of 2007. They’d especially caught my eye because the gorgeous music video was directed by David Brodsky, who also directed 3’s “All That Remains.” 3’s music video made that same list. Brodsky truly has a good eye, and great ear!

Both the aforementioned music videos are in the youtube playlist above. I snuck in Terrible Things’ “Revolution” too. I didn’t realize Mr. Brodsky also directed that video, it’s one of my favorites! Plus the other The Agonist music videos David Brodsky directed/produced appear in the playlist. Sit back, and enjoy!

Does history guide you, or do you set out to change it?
Breach not broken

Fuck your…
Skinned- alive designer wear
Fashion shades and salon hair
Heels to help where nature failed
Artificial teeth and nails

The wasp’s nest expands
So clap your hands!

It’s her!
The one black woman who’s success you don’t credit to Affirmative Action
The way of the future is corporate sponsors raising your kids
Maternal love is nothing compared to what seven dollars gives
Put in, suck out plastic body parts
It’s the ever-growing industry, industry of cosmetic arts!
Bombarded with the idealized shots, dysmorphic, self-destructive plots

Physical flaws are a mental blank
Physical flaws are a mental blank

So pay your surgeons
It’s your parents who you should thank

These eyes are blind to several hundred left behind
(Lest we forget again)
But the border is breached but not broken
Who tries to find the several hundred left behind,
When the border is breached but not broken?

Go-existing in a twisted society
Where youth is a crime and wasteful sweat-shops expenditures is how luxury is defined
Now the KKK has found a new masquerade
Fuck your self-proclaimed supremacy
You hide your face and your shame!

Identify right and wrong when all fact is merely opinion
You cannot know the sweetness of victory without first dwelling in the agony of defeat
These eyes are blind to several hundred left behind
(Lest we forget again)
But the border is breached but not broken
Who tries to find the several hundred left behind,
When the border is breached but not broken?

PPRAE #MusicMonday Freebies

bestroomontt:

It’s Monday, back to the grind! Here’s some sweetness to brighten your day- free, legal music! In this post we’ve got some MP3s, some compilations, full albums, and full EPs! All the links below go to locations the bands themselves posted- so be sure to check some stuff out, and hit up the bands you dig! The links go to bandcamp, mediafire, and a few immediately dl upon clicking. I attempted to write out some RIYLs (recommended if you like) by looking the artists up on last.fm, but the majority of the artists have less that 5,000 listen/facebook likes. Buy some merch!

If you’d like to include your music in a future Freebies post, email bestroomontt@gmail.com with a link to your download, your band name, the name of what you’re sending, your social network links, and where you rep!

Thanks to Titanium Beard, DJ Miakoda, djunior, Sparks Dudemonkey, Kief, THEdickhatch, and MrissDemeanor for helping build this list! Also thank you AbsolutePunk for Free Music Fridays, I totally yoinked this idea from that. By the way, I’m Neesh. Hiiii! Enjoy the tunes, and support the artists!

The Sound Archives/Archives/The Night are now: Night Verses! ⇢

This band has had a crazy story, I hashed as much of it as I know out in It’s A Small Scene After All.

Prior to determining that Douglas Robinson of The Sleeping would be filling in the role as vocalist in this musical ensemble, the instrumental trio posted up 4 demos.

Really looking forward to hearing Douglas’ spin on these killer tracks!

probrucer:

If you’re driving on America’s highways over the next few weeks and think you see five of your favorite pop-punk/post-hardcore bandleaders in the vehicle next to you, you are probably correct! The all-acoustic “Where’s The Band?” tour is currently out for its fourth iteration, with solo sets from returning upperclassmen Chris Conley (Saves the Day), Matt Pryor (The Get Up Kids, The New Amsterdams), and Anthony Raneri (Bayside) as well as freshman participants Ace Enders (The Early November, I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody’s Business) and Evan Weiss (Into It. Over It.).

We caught up with all five guys when they came through New York last weekend to talk about how they all got together, what makes this tour such a special occasion, and what their communal life is like both in the van and on stage. We’ll post more from the chaps next week, including exclusive details on future releases from Two Tongues and the Early November, the new solo discs from Pryor and Raneri, and more tour talk!

Couldn’t stop smiling watching this, especially since this cover song idea, I stand behind 110%! I also listen to that artist frequently, and used to jam out to that individual’s music anytime I drove the Mours boys anywhere.

Very excited to hear this new Two Tongues stuff! I had no idea that project existed until Turntable.FM! Chris Conley and Max Bemis (Say Anything) sound beyond incredible together!

Some unique singer/songwriters who I’d love to see share a stage, performing solo:

  • Anthony Green (Circa Survive)
  • Ant Masington (Session 606)
  • (a several year sober) Jonny Craig (Dance Gavin Dance, Emarosa)
  • Tilian Pearson (Tides of Man)
  • Douglas Robinson (The Sleeping, Night Verses)
  • Claudio Sanchez (Coheed and Cambria, The Prize Fighter Inferno)
  • Max Bemis (Say Anything)
  • Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw, Head Automatica)
  • Dallas Green (Alexisonfire, City and Colour)
  • Chino Moreno (Deftones, ††† (Crosses))
  • John Gourley (Anatomy of a Ghost, Portugal. The Man)
  • Nic Newsham (Gatsbys American Dream, Princess Dinosaur)
  • Joey Eppard (3)
  • Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio, theHELL)
  • Tim McIlrath (The Killing Tree, Rise Against)
  • Nick Thomas (The Spill Canvas)
  • Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy)
  • Fred Mascherino (Breaking Pangaea, Taking Back Sunday, Terrible Things)
  • Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit, Terrible Things, Death in the Park)
  • Jesse Lacey (Brand New)
  • John Nolan (Taking Back Sunday, Straylight Run)
  • Bill Manley (Nightmares For A Week)
  • Andrew McMahon (Something Corporate, Jack’s Mannequin)
  • Matt Engers (Dr Manhattan, Princess Dinosaur)
  • Brendan Rivera (Looking Glass Wars)
  • Brandon Boyd (Incubus)
  • Casey Crescenzo (The Receiving End of Sirens, The Dear Hunter)

After watching this interview, I’m super bummed that I didn’t catch this tour! There’s still a bunch of dates left though-

  • 1/28 The Social Orlando, FL
  • 1/29 Masquerade Atlanta, GA
  • 1/31 Club Dada Dallas, TX
  • 2/1 Antone’s Beaumont, TX
  • 2/3 Crescent Ballroom Phoenix, AZ
  • 2/4 House of Blues (San Diego) San Diego, CA
  • 2/5 Troubadour West Hollywood, CA
  • 2/7 Yost Theater Santa Ana, CA
  • 2/8 Downtown Brew San Luis Obispo, CA
  • 2/9 Bottom of the Hill San Francisco, CA
  • 2/10 Doug Fir Lounge Portland, OR

The Independent Musician’s Guide to Self-Promoting on Turntable.FM

Connecting directly with your fanbase online has become so much easier over the past 7 years. In a world when previously you could only engage in conversation via a forum board or an individual IM- there are now endless options! Currently, in January 2012: The most interactive way to reach out- since MySpace and Twitter- is without a doubt, Turntable.FM.

TT.FM is a place (currently only open to the U.S.) that truly allows individuals to unite and listen to music TOGETHER. There is no awkward live video feed; the site combines the internet of yore (AOL-like chatroom) with the best high speed internet has allowed us to do (streaming audio, animation).

Understanding the basics

The social network is divided into “rooms,” which can be created by anyone. As an artist looking to reach new ears, you have the option of either:

  1. creating your own room,
  2. or tapping into a pre-existing community.

Before we get too deep into that though, let’s figure out how to use turntable.fm in the first place!

unless you don’t mind getting felt up, don’t do it in a skirt or booty shorts
don’t bring a hat
don’t bring your shoes if they slip on
just relax, don’t fist-pump or flail about
don’t do it every song of the set

ACTA in a Nutshell –
What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.
Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”
What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.
